In this talk we discuss reliable communication over multiple-antenna block-fading channels with imperfect channel state information (CSI) at both the transmitter and receiver. Based on mismatched decoding theory for a fixed channel realization, we analyze the maximum transmission rates achievable with independent and identically distributed inputs and a nearest neighbor decoder. Accounting for the variation of fading coefficients, we evaluate the corresponding information outage probability at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and investigate the interlinks between channel estimation errors at the terminal ends to determine the optimal outage exponent, defined as the high-SNR slope of the outage probability plotted in a logarithmic-logarithmic scale against the SNR. In spite of operating with imperfect CSI, we show that power adaptation can offer varying degrees of performance gains in terms of outage exponent.
