For digital communication, especially in the licence free spectrum, various standards are used all over the world. So far consumer products are mainly restricted to bands below and arround a frequency of 5 GHz. Due to a constantly rising number of deployed wireless networks and the demand of higher transmission rates, the physical bounds of legacy standards are almost reached.
To cope with the new requirements upcoming standards like IEEE 802.11ay try to utilize unused frequency bands above 30 GHz (mmWave).

In the context of my scientific work, I deal with the challenge of developing communication systems for the mmWave spectrum. Especially in the 60 GHz band, we are facing new challenging conditions like huge pathloss, reflective properties and blockage, that require new concepts like Hybrid-MIMO. Another mayor part of the work towards new standards in the 60 GHz band is the development of new concepts for channel models.
