Advancements for WLAN standard presented at IEEE CSCN 2024

INÜ Researcher Ephraim Fuchs presented the paper "PHY Preamble Shortening by Training Field Reduction for 802.11 Wireless LANs" at the IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN) 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia, November 25-27, 2024. The CSCN is organized by the IEEE Communications Society and brings together academia and industry to discuss next-generation communication systems with focus on standardization.

About the paper:

Low-latency applications are expected to play a major role for upcoming 802.11 WLAN standards. However, low-latency operation comes with short packet sizes and overhead from the packet preamble can significantly degrade latency and throughput. The presented paper proposes a method for shortening the preamble of physical layer packets in WLAN systems. Exploiting the time coherence of the channel estimates in spatial multiplexing operation, our method achieves shorter preambles or improved reliability, rendering it a promising candidate for low-latency advancements in next-generation WLAN standards.
